An exhibition called 'Russian Railroads' has opened at the Moscow State Historical Museum. The display is dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the Russian railroad industry.
The exhibition features photos and models among others, charting the history of railroad industry. It is presented at the exhibition from the very first Russian trains. They used to cover the 23 kilometre distance of the first line with a speed of around 60 KM per hour. The main hero of the exhibition is certainly a train. Posters, newspapers, and even billboards from the musical comedy “A Trip to Tsarskoe Selo” with train as its leading character, are all on display. “The railroad was a very popular symbol in Russian literature. Anna Karenina is probably the first image that comes to mind. But there are also many other episodes where the railroad played a major role,” said Vera Bokova, exhibition author. A railway station is not just a transport hub, it is a center of social life. The best restaurants in town used to be the ones at the station. All attributes of a trip are displayed at the exhibition. Some of the suitcases shown have survived revolutions and have fascinating histories behind them.
