Russia has started the partial evacuation of its citizens from the Republic of Guinea due to the worsening internal political situation in the country, which has been frozen by a general strike since January 10.

The opposition is protesting against constant corruption and human rights violations. So far the evacuation concerns only Russian citizens who have asked the government for assistance, and the CIS citizens whose states asked for them to be evacuated. The Russian Emergencies Ministry is helping people leave the country.
