The number of women choosing to go back to work after having children has risen in Russia. Though, the individual mother’s choice of career has a profound effect on children.
The choice between home and career has turned into somewhat of a battle in different countries. The term “Mummy wars” was even coined in the late 1980s by an American magazine to describe the tension between two opposite sides. In Russia, statistics show that 93% of women aged between 18 to 55 hardly stop working. Therefore, a large proportion of mothers among them is forced to leave their children in the hands of other people. Most children at an infant school spend 9 hours a day and 5 days a week getting dropped off by their grandparents or babysitters.Psychologists say children being with their mothers until they are at least 3 years old is very important and insist that valuing mother-child relations in Russia has become less of a priority over the past 20 years.However, sociologists believe that a career gives women more confidence and a working mother can take all responsibilities on herself and not depend on anyone.
