Famous Russian soprano Anna Netrebko has been named musician of the year by “Musical America”. The influential magazine describes her as a “true superstar of the 21st century”.
Some great figures in the world of classical music, such as Placido Domingo, Igor Stravinsky and Mstislav Rostropovich were previously included in the magazine’s list. Anna Netrebko performed in nearly all of the world's greatest operas, but her triumphant career started on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Russia's Saint Petersburg. Her success story reminds many of a true Cinderella tale. As a very young girl she used to wash the stage of the famous Mariinsky Theatre, years later she became one of its brightest stars. Now critics hail her as one of the world's most glamorous opera divas, famous not only for her voice but also for her beauty. This Sunday, Anna Netrebko was also nominated for a coveted Grammy award.
