Police say they have detained 14 people for trying to hold an unsanctioned rally in the centre of the Russian capital, Moscow. The protestors were trying to organise a march to call for the legalisation of soft drugs in Russia.

According to authorities, the detained could face legal action for promoting the use of cannabis, which is illegal in Russia. Similar rallies are due to be held over the weekend in different parts of the country.
