Russia and the European Union have signed a memorandum ending a row over meat imports between Russia and Poland. The document gives Russia the right to carry out sanitary inspections in Poland.

In addition, Russia has been guaranteed that it will not receive meat which is banned on the EU market. Tensions between Moscow and Warsaw began in 2005, when Moscow imposed a ban on meat products from Poland following health concerns. In response, Poland blocked the start of negotiations on a new partnership agreement between Russia and the EU.The new deal means talks can now get underway.
