At least ten members of a Russian expedition to the Amazon are taking refuge in Peru after they accidentally crossed the country's border from Ecuador.

The expedition, headed by the Russian Geographical Society, hoped to study the "pink dolphin" found in the Amazon.

The group, having found themselves in Peru, are reluctant to return to Ecuador due to threats posed by a local tribe.

The latest reports from Ecuador say the group is being well looked after by the country’s special forces and remain in good health.

They're using their time wisely, learning about local customs and culture from the region's shamans, said officials.
