Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has met with his Serbian counterpart in Moscow. The visit comes at a sensitive moment in talks between Belgrade and Pristina. Expectations are high for a breakthrough in negotiations on the future status of Kosovo.

But Sergey Lavrov warned that international law must be the basis for any solution to the Kosovo problem.  “There should be no pre-set solutions and no artificial deadlines. The UN 1244 Resolution should be followed and respected by everyone,” Lavrov said.  The Foreign Minister repeated that “Russia's and Serbia's stances are as one” on Kosovo. On December 10 Russia, the EU and the U.S. – mediators in the talks – are to report to the UN on progress of the Kosovo talks. Direct talks between Belgrade and Pristina have so far proved fruitless.
