Russia has agreed to an increased international monitoring mission in the South Ossetian conflict zone. The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe is planning to deploy 20 observers in the region immediately
Currently there are nine OSCE representatives in and around South Ossetia. An official announcement of the decision is expected when Tbilisi confirms its support for the mission. The agreement was finally reached after yesterday's stalemate in OSCE when Russia said it supported the proposal in principle but claimed Georgia was blocking progress.
