The crew of a fishing trawler seized by Somali pirates last week is in good health. That's according to the ship’s deputy captain, who was able to make a phone call to the owners.
The vessel carrying 23 Russians, two Ghanaians and two Philippinos was hijacked off the Seychelles on October 29. It is the largest number of Russians to have been taken captive at sea.
The ship, the “Thai Union–3,” does have an adequate supply of fuel and provisions.
It is insured against such an incident, and according to Russian representatives, the Singapore-based company that owns the ship is ready to begin negotiations. The pirates, however, have yet to voice their demands.
