An explosion has damaged a gas pipeline in Russia’s southern republic of Dagestan. No casualties have been reported, though more than 200,000 people have been left without energy supplies.

An explosive device detonated, destroying part of the pipeline late Tuesday. Although the device was discovered prior to its explosion it went off before authorities could deactivate it.

A fire that resulted from the blast was finally put out several hours later. Authorities expect the gas flow to be restored within the next 24 hours.
