Pakistan's leader Pervez Musharraf sweeps the majority of votes in Pakistan's presidential elections. However, it is still not clear whether he will be able to claim victory in the contest.

The country's Supreme Court is still to decide whether he is eligible to run for president whilst remaining the army chief. On Friday, the Court declared the results of the election will not be announced until October 17. On the eve of the vote, President Musharraf annulled corruption charges against former Prime Minister and opposition leader, Benazir Bhutto, in an attempt to garner more support. The U.S.-backed leader's popularity has been sliding since he suspended the country's Chief Justice in March 2007.
