Two tawny owls have died in Moscow’s bird sanctuary at Vorobyovy Gory after two strangers set fire to their aviary.

The incident took place on the New Year’s Eve, reports RIA Novosti, quoting the sanctuary’s spokesperson Elena Fyodorova.

It is not the first time the aviary has been attacked. In February last year someone forced open a cage in which three tawny owls lived and let them out.

Back then, only two of the birds were found and returned to the sanctuary. The first one remained next to the aviary because it could not fly due to earlier wounds. And the second owl was rescued from crows by local residents.
