A Cypriot ship, bound for the Russian arctic port of Murmansk, has hit rocks close to Bergen in Norway. A major clean-up operation is now underway after hundreds of tonnes of oil leaked into the sea.
“An environmental catastrophe, and an accident waiting to happen”, that's the way Norwegian authorities have described an oil spillage caused after a tanker ran aground off the country's western coast.The 180-metre long “Server” split into two, allowing much of its cargo to seep into the sea.One half of the tanker has been dragged into Bergen's port while the second is slowly sinking in rough waters.No one was hurt in the incident and the Indonesian crew, has been flown to safety.
