Three people have been admitted to hospital with serious injuries after a fire broke out at the Diagilev nightclub in the centre of Moscow. One of the injured sustained serious burns, while two others were suffering from smoke inhalation.
The roof of the Diagilev club collapsed during the blaze. A rescue helicopter was scrambled to fight the fire with ten ambulances also at the scene. Rescuers say the fire, which spread over 1,500 square metres, was put out. Fortunately, no one was killed. The neighbouring buildings have been evacuated. The Diagilev Project was known as the most lavish and high-profile spot for international celebrities, corporate heavies and the clubbing elite to party. The club's founders recreated a belle epoque fantasy land of gilt and velvet. The guests were expected to pay as much as $US 1,000 a night to reserve a table and around $US 20,000 for a VIP box. The club was notoriously exclusive with strict face control and dress code.
