A passenger jet en route from Moscow to the Chechen Republic's capital was forced to make an emergency landing because of a false threat that a bomb was on board the aircraft.

The Russian-made Yakovlev-42 jet landed safely in the city of Volgograd in Russia’s South and all 73 passengers on board were evacuated to safety.

The subsequent search resulted in no explosives found onboard. The flight resumed after police cleared it for security.

The alarm was raised shortly after take-off, when an anonymous call was made to Moscow's Vnukovo Airport saying that there was a device on board.
