The satellite developed problems with its booster after being successfully launched from the Baikonur space in Kazakhstan on Friday. The AMC-14 satellite was to provide telecommunication services to the United States for at least 15 years. It weighed approximately 4 tonnes at lift-off. Proton rockets are marketed by International launch services – a joint Russian-American venture. The launch was the company's second this year, with some 40 more planned.
