A millionaire couple from the U.S. face up to 40 years in prison after being found guilty of modern day slavery.
The couple had brought two Indonesian women to work as housekeepers in their mansion in New York, but repeatedly subjected them to psychological and physical abuse. The two women were forced to work up to 18 hours a day, were poorly fed, and subjected to punishments that were called a ‘cruel form of torture’. The abuses only came to light when one of the women ran away.
