Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has called for immediate action against the militants operating in Russia's Northern Caucasus. Meeting with the state's Security Council, he made it clear solutions are needed.
After the terrorist attack on the Ingush president Yevkurov, the situation there is, naturally, difficult, said Medvedev.
“I’ve instructed the chief of the Security Service, the Interior Minister, and the Prosecutor General to ensure law and order in the republic and to investigate this case,” the president said.
Medvedev then let the council officials present their reports on what has been done and what the main theories are. He was also interested in what was being done next in response to the attack.
“As I’ve already said during my meetings with some of you and my meeting with the Chechen president, we don’t have to be too polite with these people. We need to act. We have conducted several operations, and some more are currently underway. Please tell me how many bandits you have killed,” Medvedev said.
Last week an attempt was made on the life of the President of Ingushetia, one of Russia’s southern republics.
President Yevkurov’s car was attacked by a suicide bomber, killing the driver and three others. Yevkurov was seriously wounded and remains hospitalized.
