Mauritanian plane hijacking ends in Canary Islands

The hijacking of a Mauritanian passenger plane has been over and one suspect has been arrested, according to the Spanish Foreign Ministry. The hijacker gave himself up to authorities on landing in the Canary Islands. 

Earlier reports from the emergency services claimed several people could have been injured by gunfire.The Boeing 737 with 71 passengers and 8 crew members on board was hijacked while on a domestic flight from the capital Nouakchott to the city of Nouadhibou. The plane eventually landed in the Spanish Canary Islands after first making a fuel stop in Western Sahara.
