Magnolias to make 2014 Olympic city greener

The Winter Olympic 2014 city of Sochi is having a green makeover, as the mayor and many volunteers celebrated World Environment Day by planting Magnolias in one of its parks.

The park was an abandoned construction site just a few months ago. But now local authorities are working with environmental activists in a bid to make the Olympic city greener.

Their main goals are to restore infrastructure and to clean the parks and beaches.

Volunteer groups are being encouraged to grow and help bring the city closer to the high environmental standards set by the Olympic Organising Committee.
