Two icebreakers in Russia's Far East have rescued a fifth and final ship that had been stuck in ice for nearly a month.

When the icebreakers have refueled they will return to escort another ship to open waters. It is currently in a safe zone following its rescue. Three ships found themselves stranded on December 30, with a combined crew of around 400. Less than a week later, two more vessels became stuck.A rescue operation was launched, but the thickness of the ice hampered efforts to reach the ships. Strong winds, low visibility and shifting ice floes added to the problem.
