President Dmitry Medvedev’s noting that the jailed Russian tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky does not “pose a threat” does not mean that the former Yukos owner could be released from jail anytime soon, says political analyst Dmitry Babich.
“I don’t think it (Medvedev’s words) means Khodorkovsky is going to be released, and after all it was not the president who put him in jail,” stressed Babich, who joined RT live soon after Medvedev finished a news conference in Skolkovo. “I also don’t think it will be politically easy for Medvedev to parole Khodorkovsky, although he has such a possibility according to law, but this sort of things happen rarely in any country, including Russia,” Babich went on to say.“So I think, basically, what Medvedev wanted to say is that he doesn’t dispute the decisions of the court, but he doesn’t consider this person a danger,” he concluded.
