Parliamentary sources in the Central Asian state of Kazakhstan say President Nursultan Nazarbayev has decided to nominate Karim Masimov to be the country's next prime minister.

He's expected to replace Danial Akhmetov, who resigned unexpectedly on Monday. Karim Masimov has been Deputy Prime Minister since January 2006. Kazakh constitutional law requires the president to nominate a new candidate, who must then be approved by parliament. Masimov is expected to be officially nominated at a joint parliamentary session on Wednesday.
