Kazakh traffic police inspectors had the surprise of their lives when a driver they stopped for a paper check turned out to be wearing ice skates.

The extravagant footwear was not the only reason the 30-year-old failed to walk a straight line, spokesperson for the police Nina Zinovieva told Interfax news agency. He had consumed quite a few drinks shortly before getting into his BMW.

The driver explained that he was on his way to have some fun at a nearby shopping mall, which has a skating rink.

Traffic regulations in Kazakhstan do not specifically forbid driving in skates. But the man is still likely to lose his license for up to ten years for being drunk behind the wheel.
