The animal lived over one million years ago – long before humans or even mammoths walked the earth. Scientists suggest it died when it was covered by a collapsed river bank. Unfortunately, some locals have carried away many of the elephant's teeth. The police are now appealing for them to bring “the souvenirs” back. The discovery will be displayed at the local museum alongside another skeleton of the same type found in the area.
