Police in Iran are taking steps to prevent further unrest over government-imposed petrol rationing that went into effect on Wednesday.

Calm has returned to the streets of Tehran, with drivers filling up their cars in accordance with the new rules.  Each driver is allowed a maximum of 100 litres of petrol per month at the subsidised rate. On the night rationing was imposed, twelve petrol stations were set on fire as angry motorists expressed their anger with the scheme.
