The European Union has expressed its disappointment following talks with Iran on its nuclear programme. Iran's top nuclear negotiator says Tehran will continue its programme even if the United Nations imposes new sanctions.

The negotiations between Saeed Jalili and EU Foreign Policy Chief, Javier Solana took place in London on Friday. “I have to admit that after five hours of meetings I expected more. I am therefore disappointed,” Solana said. On Saturday, five permanent Security Council members and Germany are due to meet in Paris to discuss tougher sanctions against Tehran over its refusal to halt uranium enrichment.       The West says the Iranian nuclear programme is aimed at building atomic bombs, while Iran insists its enrichment efforts are for civilian uses only. The U.S. and its allies are promising to press for further sanctions against Iran.
