While it is not yet clear, what went wrong at the Donetsk’s Zasyadko mine, Yury Malyshev, a member of the Academy of Mining Science, told RT, that it's essential to remove as much methane as possible from mines, before workers go down.

“Blasts are always a threat when mining at greater depth, where there is much gas. I know that mine operators do what they can. But what they do is not enough. This has become a global issue. Miners get killed everywhere: it's not just Ukraine, similar things happen in Russia, China, Britain and other coal-mining countries. So, I'd say we have to work out universal rules for mining at greater depth,” Malyshev explained to RT.
