A militant leader with alleged links to Al-Qaeda has been killed by security services during a special operation in Russia's Southern Republic of Ingushetia. A local resident was also injured during a gunfight.

Ingush authorities say the dead man was responsible for attacks that killed several law enforcement officers in the region.

One of the attacks by militants was carried out one month ago near a police station and killed two officers and injured 15 others.

Security services have detained two people with suspected links to the attack.
