“Individual security should come first”

Individual security and observance of basic human rights are essential and should be given serious attention, together with global security issues, believes Jayantha Dhanapala from the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists.

“While countries must contribute to global stability, there must also be a human security which deals with individual citizens. That means a package of human rights – whether it’s political, economic, social or cultural rights,” said Jayantha Dhanapala, who’s attending an international security conference in the Russian city of Yaroslavl.
