India plans to arm its navy with the newest Russian nuclear powered attack submarine by next year, according to the Hindustan Times newspaper.

Built to engage surface forces and coastal facilities, the Akula-2 class sub is equipped with 28 nuclear-capable cruise missiles. Their striking range is 3,000 kilometers. The Indian version is expected to be armed with more than 40 fire-units, including 28 nuclear missiles with a 300 kilometers range. The submarine's propulsion machinery consists of a 190 megawatt pressurized water nuclear reactor. It's claimed to be one of the quietest Russian-built submarines. According to the Hindustan Times, the sub will be leased to India for 10 years.
