More than a dozen teachers have been injured after Indian law enforcement officers used force to disperse a crowd of peaceful protesters in Kashmir. Police in full riot gear used water cannon on the demonstrators.

Dozens more protesters were detained by police in Srinagar, Kashmir, as teachers demanded a pay rise and regularization of their jobs.“We were staging a peaceful protest as the authorities were not fulfilling genuine demands. Police used force to disperse us. In the police action at least 12 teachers sustained injuries,” Abdul Qayoom Wani, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Teacher's Forum, told the media.
