There have been street protests in the Hugarian capital of Budapest. Thousands were calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany. Groups of protesters were trying to block the streets which led to clashes with the police.

Water cannon, rubber bullets and tear gas were used to calm the demonstrators. So far, there have been no personal comments from the Prime Minister, but his spokesman said that those protests are unacceptable and the authorities would deal with them in a proper way.  The ongoing campaign for Ferenc Gyurcsany’s removal began last year after a tape was leaked in which he acknowledged his coalition lied about the economy to win re-election. A lot of people then called then on him to step down, which he refused to do.
