Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has announced plans to nationalise the country’s electric and phone companies. The move is in line with his plan to make the country “socialist”.
The stride to socialism was the key promise in his recent election campaign.He will also ask the National Assembly to approve laws giving him powers to make such changes by decree.
