Georgia’s President Saakashvili has launched a massive clean up among senior officers of the Georgian army, in an attempt to find responsibility for defeat in the South Ossetian war.
Russia’s envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin, said that the Georgian General Prosecutor’s office has also launched more than 4,000 cases against deserters. He said that the troops were “demoralized” by the orders they received from their commanders and refused to shoot at peaceful civilians.
