Two armed men have seized a school bus in the capital of Philippines, Manila, holding 32 children and two teachers hostage. The men were apparently being chased by police after a failed hold-up when they stormed the bus.

Local Television reports have showed pictures of children waving from inside the bus, but they did not appear to be harmed. Police have surrounded the bus and negotiations are said to be in progress. The hostage-takers are reported to have scribbled on a piece of paper, visible through the bus window, saying that they are armed with grenades.
