An American computer engineer, Hans Reiser, has been found guilty of first-degree murder following the death of his Russian-born wife. He faces the possibility of 25 years in prison. The sentence is expected shortly.

The verdict against 44-year-old Hans Reiser from Oakland in California ends a six-month-long trial. Nina Reiser vanished on September 3, 2006, after leaving her two children with her husband at his house in an Oakland suburb. Her body has never been found. Reiser met his wife Nina on a business trip to Russia in 1998 and took her back with him to the U.S. Their marriage soon fell apart and she filed for divorce in 2004. She won custody of their two children, but the divorce battle was never fully resolved.
