Hollywood stars George Clooney and Don Cheadle have received the Man of Peace award from Nobel Prize laureates.

The ceremony that took place in Rome was led by the first and only president of the Soviet Union – Mikhail Gorbachev.   The two actors won the prize for their campaign to help the troubled Darfur region of Sudan, where around 200,000 people have been killed and 2.5 million uprooted since a religious conflict broke out in 2003. Earlier this year Clooney, Cheadle and Pitt raised $ US10 million for Darfur at the Cannes film festival. Clooney and Cheadle also feature in a recently released documentary on the conflict, “Darfur Now”. Mikhail Gorbachev who presented the awards got his Nobel Prize in 1990, being the president of the Soviet Union, for merits in unification of Germany, perestroika and re-armament.
