Rene Pischel, the head of the Moscow office of the European Space Agency, believes that in the future there will be many more uses for GLONASS-like navigating systems than just road navigation.

“For instance, right now you can already add position information to your digital photos, which makes it much easier to search for photos,” Pischel said. “Or if you want stereo photos, you need to position to shoot very precisely. I’m sure that in five years we will have many more applications than now, but it all depends on how easy the access to the receiving station will be.”
