Gaza hit again in Israeli strikes

Military aircraft attacked the Palestinian interior ministry building in retaliation for a rocket attack from Gaza on a southern Israeli city. Rescue workers said at least five were injured.

This is the second time in a week the ministry building has been targeted. Eye witnesses said missiles hit an adjacent building, also used by ministry staff. A militant wing of Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket attack, striking an empty school. The missile penetrated ten kilometres across Israel’s border, the deepest incursion yet. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert warned of far-reaching consequences after Hamas said it was responsible.
