The first round of the French Presidential election is scheduled for April 22. A final list of candidates will be announced in a few hours in Paris. There are three main frontrunners among them – Nicolas Sarkozy, Segolene Royal and François Bay
The campaigning has begun, with the leading candidates holding rallies at the weekend to gather support.There will be at least 11 candidates in the final list. They need to collect 500 signatures from elected officials in order to stand for the election. According to latest information, the leader of the National Front party, Jean-Marie Le Pen, will also stand for the election. If there is no clear majority in the first round, another round will be scheduled for May 6.
