Former Peruvian President wanted for human rights abuses

Peru has formally requested the extradition from Chile of former Peruvian President, Alberto Fujimori. He has been accused of human rights abuses, resulting in the deaths of at least 35 people during his 10-year term.

The former president left for Japan in 2000, where he was granted citizenship.In 2003, Interpol issued an order for his arrest. He was detained upon arrival in Chile in 2005, but has been free on bail.Mr Fujimori denies the accusations against him.
