First snow of winter hits Moscow

Muscovites are used to seeing snow by mid October, and this year is no exception. The city's residents have been wrapping up warm as the first cold snap of the winter descended on the capital at the weekend.

Traffic police are warning drivers to take extra care.  Freezing temperatures are expected to affect roads overnight and in the morning. More than two thousand snow ploughs are on standby to treat motorways and other main roads in and out of the capital. Airports are reporting no major problems, with flights in and out of the city's airports going ahead as normal.
