The Union of Estonian Veterans has filed a complaint to a district court against the country’s Defence Ministry’s decision to relocate the statue of the Bronze Soldier and the remains of Soviet soldiers who died fighting the Nazis in Tallinn.

The veterans tried to sue the Ministry in April, but Tallinn’s administrative court did not accept their request. They then filed a complaint in May, but the same court found flaws in their official complaint and gave them additional time to fix them. The Bronze Soldier was dismantled in late April and moved to a military cemetery causing riots in the Estonian capital.  The remains of 12 soldiers were also exhumed from the site of the memorial which was dedicated to Soviet troops who died freeing Estonia from Nazi occupation.
