At least 33 people have died and more than 50 others are missing after a Sudan Airways passenger jet caught fire while landing at Khartoum airport.

The airliner was on a flight from Jordan carrying more than 200 passengers and crew when it exploded and burst into flames on landing. More than a hundred passengers escaped the blaze, but rescuers are continuing to search the wreckage. It's thought a technical fault caused one of the plane's engines to explode while landing. Eyewitnesses say they saw the aircraft veer off the runway as it landed.
