More than 800 people were trapped in a metro tunnel in Moscow after three carriages derailed on one of its busiest lines.
Passengers had to walk almost a kilometre through an underground tunnel to reach the nearest station. The accident happened on the northern section of the grey line at the start of the evening rush hour. Services were suspended in the area because of damaged tracks. It’s reported that dozens of people fainted on crowded platforms where travellers waited up to 20 minutes for trains. Authorities say a faulty rail might have caused the accident. Two hundred additional buses were laid on to transport passengers in the affected area. Metro officials say train services will resume by Thursday morning.
