At least 111 people have been killed and a further 11 are still missing after Typhoon Sowmai struck south east China. It’s the worst storm to hit the country in five decades.

The authorities have moved more than 1.5 million people from areas prone to flooding and around 7,300 homes have been evacuated. The province of Jurjeeang, where the typhoon made landfall, has been worst hit with 109 deaths reported in the area. In the neighbouring Foojien province, 2 people are believed to have died.
