A rare Gold medal split in the women's downhill alpine skiing has marked Day 5 of the Sochi Olympics. Germany in the meantime has gone top of overall standings with a total of 6 gold medals, while the Russian team dominated the figure-skating rink.

Tina Maze from Slovenia and Dominique Gisin from Switzerland produced a breath-taking display, tying for gold with an overall time of 1:41.57 to share the top spot on the podium.

Figure skaters Tatiana Volosozhar and Maksim Trankov have brought Russia its second gold medal at the home Games in Sochi by dominating the figure skating pairs free skating program. The silver went to another Russian duo Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov as they climbed from third place to beat the Germans.
