It's been a year since a devastating earthquake hit the Sakhalin region in Russia's Far East. The disaster left thousands homeless in the town of Nevelsk. But the region is now back on its feet, and building new infrastructure to withstand earthquakes.
New houses, capable of withstanding earthquakes measuring up to nine on the Richter scale are now being constructed in the area. Last year's disaster killed two people and injured dozens. After the quake half of the residents stayed in the area living in tents, garages and any buildings still standing. Now authorities say almost 15 hundred new apartments are ready.
